Position
Hardware Engineer
As a Hardware Engineer, you will work on building our autonomous drones. This includes curating parts lists to satisfy requirements and budgets and assembling, soldering, and wiring the drone parts. Your work will be crucial to balance cost, payload capacity, flight time, and avionics specs. Key Responsibilities • Design and order hardware parts including frame, motors, ESCs, flight controller, GPS, LiDAR, cameras, and more • Install payloads including NVIDIA Jetson, thermal cameras, and more • Work with Ardupilot flight controller • Troubleshoot and resolve all hardware, electrical, and systems integration issues through rigorous bench testing and diagnostics. • Conduct flight tests in Davis, Yolo County, and Northern California
Software Engineer
As a Software Engineer, you will be working with the Flight Controller software and drone simulator. This includes coordinating between the hardware parts and exposing telemetry from the drone to the autonomy AI model. Key Responsibilities • Develop and maintain the software interface running on the Cube Orange flight controller • Work with Ardupilot and AirSim to test drone capabilities in a virtual simulator environment • Python, C, C++, and Rust • Use MAVLink to coordinate communications between hardware components • Create and maintain a ground control software program to orchestrate and manage autonomous drone missions
Machine Learning/AI Engineer
As the Machine Learning/AI Engineer, you are responsible for giving our drone the power to see, understand, and make decisions. You will be at the forefront of our mission, developing and deploying the "brains" of the entire operation directly onto our onboard NVIDIA Jetson AGX Orin. Using our physical drone platform and virtual simulator environments, you will work on training a VLM to learn spatial-temporal video understanding to pilot the drones. Key Responsibilities • Research, train, and fine-tune vision-language models (VLMs) to work with drone inputs and outputs • Work with Python, Pytorch, Transformers • Use existing open-weight models such as Qwen, Llama, and Phi • Maintain the inference engine running the language model on the drone’s NVIDIA Jetson hardware • Develop the data pipeline for collecting, augmenting, and annotating aerial imagery to build a robust training dataset • Use reinforcement learning in sim to improve the VLM’s performance across drone benchmarks
